Conservation
1960s: sherds mended with shellac and infilled with white plaster.
Description
Bowl with ring foot. Rounded walls. Plain rim with narrowed lip. Ring foot with sloping interior face is marked off from floor of vessel by distinct tooled groove. Distinct tooled spiral at center of underside of base. Inscribed on base to left of spiral: ΑΛ (read downward).
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine fabric with distinct red slip; there is some discoloring of fabric, as shown by lighter and pinker patches, and of the slip, which is now very dull. The ”double-dipping line“ is present and run across the center of the vessel.
Preservation comment
Three joining sherds preserve ca. 35% of rim, full profile, and entire base. Moderate, extensive abrasion with frequent pitting and scratchingl minor chipping around rim; worn breaks.
