Description
Flat base extends out in triangular projection. Unworked underside but series of 14 shallow gouges mark outer edge: rudimentary adornment or ware from use? Short, vertical wall inset from edge of base, with somewhat rounded exterior face and bevelled, inward sloping face. Careful form and manufacturing and fine material.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
5YR 6/6 (reddish yellow) fabric; 5YR 7/6 (reddish yellow) slip. Fine fabric, consistently fired, with rare, tiny white (lime) inclusions and frequently tiny sparkles (some quartzitic and some golden micaceous?); and very rare, angular, large black carbonous chunks and small shells; rare irregular, small voids. Somewhat thin, even, matte semi-slip on all surfaces.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 30% of walls and floor; full profile. Heavy erosion and abrasion with frequent gouging and chipping around edges; heavily worn edges. Marine context: surface has deteriorating, powdery texture; large patches of gray to black discoloration; a few vermetid encasings.
