Description
Baking dish. Slightly convex wall. High curved rim. Upper face of squared rim is inclined towards interior and has distinct sharp groove forming a resting plane for lid.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric and slip are predominantly orange-red (somewhat discolored?) but some variation from burning on exterior. Coarse fabric with granular to hackly break. Dense inclusions: abundant black, subangular to subrounded, small inclusions (occasionally medium); rare, medium, lime chunks; varied other sandy bits. Slip only survives in small patches, though was likely thick enough, at least in parts, to obscure inclusions.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves <10% of rim, full wall profile, and part of flat floor. Extensive, moderate to severe erosion and abrasion, so that slip largely gone; worn breaks. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
