Description
Trefoil-mouth jug with rounded body. Rim is thickened to concave upper face (with one patch of excess clay). Neck has two offsets below rim and two halfway down to body. One handle extends from just below back of rim to above widest point of body; two grooves on outer face form central ridge. Light turning bands might well have been visible even under the now-missing slip. In overall construction this is a fine example of the type.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Hard, slightly granular fabric with frequent light angular inclusions and other tiny bits. Consistently fired to light red. Surface originally carried very thin darker reddish slip, now worn away.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves entire rim, neck and handle, with small part of upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion with pitting and minor chipping, so that slip is most removed; worn breaks; specks to small patches of white encrustation.
