Late Roman Amphora 2 Small
Description
Rounded shoulder. Short, truncoconical neck. Flaring, slightly bulging rim has pointed lip with angular outer face and concave inner face. Sharp turn on inside at base of rim. Short, angled loop handle, oval to elliptical in section, attaches at middle of neck to base of rim and at shoulder. Combing on upper body to shoulder at level of lower handle attachment.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Standard Argolid LRA2 fabric, though with somewhat more sandy inclusions than usual and fired slightly more brown.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves entire rim and neck, one handle and start of other, and some combing under complete handle on upper body. Clean breaks; dense, large patches of encrustation with small pebbles adhering.
