Early in morphological development from Agora M273-related forms-SCA (“transitional“): neck and rim are earlier shapes, as is rounded handle (and cf. other Aegean Dr24-family), but handle‘s looping and grooving and asymmetrical attachment look later.
Description
Short cylindrical neck has outwardly thickened rounded rim. Compact vertical loop handles, rectangular in section with deep groove on outside, attach to upper neck and shoulder. Wide rounded shoulder.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
SCA Fabric 2, so far as is observable through the encrustation: reddish brown fabric fired slightly darker at surface; hard, slightly coarse; gritty surface and slightly granular break; tiny golden micaceous flakes at surface; uncommon, small, rounded, lime and quartz; other tiny light bits. Eastern Aegean/western Asia Minor.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves 7% of rim, one entire handle, and large part of one shoulder. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion with flaking and rare scoring; worn breaks; extensive, rough patching of encrustation.
