Description
Heavy, solid toe. Tapers slightly in middle; terminates in flat bottom. Very slightly thickened towards end but no distinct marking of toe from lowest wall. Faint turning marks.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Brick red; somewhat fine, hard, smooth break; uncommon, small, rounded, sandy inclusions (quartzitic?); other mostly dark, tiny bits. Thin creamy white film from saline wash preserved under encrustation. Tunisian.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves entire toe up to attachment to lower wall. Slight, somewhat extensive abrasion and large chips; worn break. Thick, extensive patch of encrustation mostly on one side.
