Phocaean Red-Slip Hayes 3F
Description
Dish. Straight flaring upper wall. Blocky vertical rim, widely overhanging flange below, with slight groove on underside; top is widened and flattened.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Red fabric; fine, hard; smooth break. Uncommon, poorly sorted, small, subrounded and subangular, lime inclusions. Surface has thin, even, semimatte red slip with tinge of orange, slightly darker than fabric. Classic LRC fabric.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves 5% of rim and upper body. Slight, somewhat extensive abrasion and chipping around edges; worn breaks; extensive film of encrustation.
