Late Roman Amphora 14
Description
Narrow, cylindrical body up to gentle rounded shoulder. Short, narrow neck thickened at midpoint into ridge; slightly flaring, thickened rim flat on top. Vertical loop handle, angled at outside apex, attaches at shoulder and ridge on neck.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Reddish yellow to pink fired to yellow-pale orange on exterior. Fabric is fine with very rare, small, subrounded, white inclusions, tiny black and red inclusions, and rare mica. Thin but even wash same color as clay. Brushmarks on surface from wet-smoothing.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves ca. 15-20% of rim, neck and upper shoulder, and one handle. Good condition; clean breaks; scattered specks to small patches of encrustation.
