- Samos Cistern Amphora
- Description
- Solid spike toe, slightly asymmetrical, tapers to widened panel at base above concave bottom. Lower wall flares to cylindrical body.
- Fabric, firing, and surface description
- Fabric slightly finer than usual for form, micaceous element represented by very small glistening bits; fired to red, rather than usual brown. Surface lighter brown than usual. But not so distant as to assign to a wholly different workshop.
- Preservation comment
- One sherd preserves entire toe and part of lower body. Very slight abrasion and chipping around edges; slight to moderate, extensive film of encrustation.
