General family SCA/Ephesus 56 from eastern Aegean sphere.
Description
Tall conical spike with small button toe, concave on bottom. Faint spiral grooving on exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Pale orangish red, consistently fired; slightly coarse, very hard, with granular break and rough gritty texture; frequent, well sorted, tiny to small, added sand (mostly light, calcareous and quartzitic, rarely red or brown and gray) and very rare, medium, amorphous lime chunks, visible at surface; tiny flecks of golden mica. Surface smoothed? Eastern Aegean.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves entire toe up to lowermost body. Slight, sparse abrasion with slight scoring and chipping; somewhat worn breaks; faint, thin, widespread patches of encrustation.
