Roman Cooking Ware
Description
Cooking dish. Flaring upper body. Wide flaring rim with rounded on outer edge and slight concave uper surface, with sharp interior edge. Below rim, groove on interior and slight ridge on adjacent exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Red with a tinge of orange; slightly coarse, hard, smooth to granular break; frequent small light inclusions, some visible on surface (some calcareous); rare, medium, subangular, poorly sorted, light inclusions (including quartzitic); other tiny bits (white, black, gray, red); faintly golden micaceous. Interior surface and inner rim face has light pale red matte slip; exterior is pale brown. Light brush marks on all extant surfaces.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves ca. 10% of rim and small part of upper body. Slight, sparse abrasion with minor chipping and scratching; worn breaks.
