Late Roman Cooking Ware
Description
Cooking pot. Rounded shoulder sharply constricted at rim. Flaring rim, rounded on exterior face and flat on interior face, with pointed lip and rounded on interior articulation with shoulder. Wide, oval to triangular handle attaches against rim.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Orangish to reddish brown fabric fired to medium gray at surface (1-2 mm); coarse, hard fabric with smooth to slightly conchoidal break; abundant, small to medium, light, opaque and translucent, angular inclusions, occasionally large (some quartzitic and some calcareous); also embedded in surface. Light brush marks on exterior rim and all interior surfaces. Regional.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves 20% of rim with one upper handle attachment and articulation with shoulder. Slight abrasion along rim; dulled and worn edges; extensive, thin patches of encrustation.
