Bonifay2004 Sigillée type 60 variante 109A-B (end 6th-second half 7th c.). Hints of later features include small or “vestigial“ foot, low angle of lower wall outside foot, and relatively thin floor at thickest part of vessel.
Description
Shallow bowl of dish. Flat, plain base with wide surrounding groove that creates appearance of small foot. Slipped on interior only. Distinct spiral bands of burnishing across floor.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Somewhat heavy, granular fabric with uncommon, small to medium-size, subangular to angular, gray and white inclusions. Thick, uneven, matte slip, darker than fabric, on interior; plain exterior.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves 30% of base and small part of lower wall. Slight, sparse abrasion but clean breaks; specks of encrustation and thin, white band of discoloration on bottom.
