JLR 6-2024: check, form resembles Beirut 8.1B (mid-6CE; cf. Reynolds2005, p. 598, pl. 11, fig. 80)
Description
Low flaring shoulder. Tall, cylindrical neck, very slightly concave, with thin wall. Rim is outwardly thickened band; plain, rounded lip. Faint turning bands on interior and exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric core: 7.5YR 5/2 (grayish brown). Fabric surface, consistently fired: 5YR 6/6 (reddish yellow). Somewhat coarse, medium hard fabric; granular break with bumpy surface texture; numerous, well sorted, sandy inclusions of various shapes: small, subrounded, dark red or brown, black, gray inclusions (including quartzitic and stone); occasional elongated pale orange particles; rare, small, subrounded, lime bits, a few larger and more angular (limestone?); rare small voids. Northern Galilean-southern Phoenician fabric, somewhat more pale and grittier than LRA5 sandy orange. Cf. KTH1119.
Preservation comment
Two joining sherds preserve 8% of rim and full profile of shoulder to lip. Slight, extensive abrasion and pitting and slight chipping around edges; worn breaks.
