Samos Cistern Amphora
Description
Solid spike toe with flat knob on bottom. Spiral turning marks.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
SCA Fabric 2: reddish brown fabric with gritty surface and slightly granular break; frequent tiny golden micaceous flakes at surface; uncommon, small, rounded, elongated lime and quartz; other tiny light bits. Eastern Aegean/western Asia Minor.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves entire spike and small part of lower body. Slight, somewhat extensive abrasion and chipping along edge; somewhat worn break; thick encrustation on all surfaces.
