African Red Slip Hayes Form 68
Description
Large bowl with molded rim. Flat, everted rim has hooked lip with flat to slightly concave outer face but rounded underside; angular profile. Slight ridge on interior face before lip; widening on exterior face below lip.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fine fabric with rare rounded “lime” inclusions. Upper face of rim originally bore thick smoothed slip, slightly darker than fabric, now much abraded; underside has thick slip, largely unsmoothed.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves small part of rim and upper wall. Slight, extensive abrasion; worn breaks; sparse patches of encrustation.
