Small bowl in earlier ware cf. ESC Loeschcke 19, 20: mid-late 1st c. CE
Description
Small bowl. Splayed ring foot; beveled outer face with small ridge; sloping inner face; button on bottom. Wide flaring, thin, rounded lower walls. Slipped over entire interior and exterior walls down foot but only smeared and dripped over bottom inside foot.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Typical early ESC but somewhat grittier than usual. Fine, hard, pale reddish brown fabric; rare, small, subrounded lime inclusions; rare specks of golden mica. Thick, semimatte, reddish orange slip, mottled on outside and thicker, darker on inside.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves entire base and central floor and small part of lower wall. Slight, sparse abrasion and pitting; worn breaks; scattered specks of encrustation on outside and somewhat thick patches on bottom.
