Late Roman Amphora 5
Description
Convex body. Painted design of two groups of four vertical lines each curving inward and overlapping near mid-body; separate circle design to side. Turning ridges.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Reddish brown to orange fabric, slightly granular, with frequent varied tiny sandy inclusions, occasional round lime and angular quartz. Consistently fired to slightly darker red at surface. Thin, somewhat even, matte paint is yellowish white. Northern Palestinian.
Preservation comment
One large body sherd. One small body sherd. Slight to moderate, extensive abrasion and chipping around edges; worn breaks; thin film of encrustation in patches.
