Samos Cistern Amphora
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Hard, granular fabric is brown with occasional, medium, subangular light inclusions (quartz and limestone); moderately micaceous; other tiny red and gray bits. All extant surfaces are brown consistent with fabric.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 15% of rim, large part of neck and upper shoulder, and upper attachment of one handle. Moderate abrasion and slight chipping around edges; worn breaks; somewhat thick, extensive film of encrustation.
