Description
Wide dish. Thick ring foot, splayed outward, triangular outer profile that rests on sharp point; inner face of base slopes inward. Curving wall. Knobby, angular rim Rim offset from wall by shallow groove on upper face and very slight hook underneath. Form resembles ARS Hayes 104C but rather thicker and heavier, and material is not usual ARS. Imitative product?
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Red fabric; fine, hard; smooth break. Uncommon to common flecks of gold mica especially in slip; rare, isolated, angular lime bits; no other visible inclusions; rare, small, rounded voids on exterior. Very smooth slip, semimatte, more evenly and thickly applied on inside; outside is more mottled, with plain patches and few drip marks; slip continues everywhere (even over base and within ring base). Not North African.
Preservation comment
12 sherds preserve nearly complete profile, including 80% of rim; floor within base not present; two joining groups of four and seven sherds extend from rim to base with one nonjoining rim sherd. One large chip missing on inner surface; smaller chips on outer surface. Slight abrasion concentrated around lip, otherwsie surface mostly in good condition.
