2007 (early July): mechanically cleaned surface (Panagiota Sphyri).
Description
Middle portion of tegula. Left end of manufacturing stamp is preserved on concave side (interior). Rectangular panel (D. 0.003) encloses Latin letters in relief: CỌ[ ] (C has serif at top). Only upper curve of O is legible.
Fabric, firing, surface
10YR 8/2, very pale brown. Somewhat hard, medium-fine fabric with rare, medium, rounded, red to brown inclusions and very few, small, rounded voids. Corinthian.
Preservation description
One small fragment broken on all sides preserves top and bottom. Moderate, extensive abrasion with chipping; worn breaks; slight, sparse encrustation. Stamped letters are weathered and encrusted but faintly legible.
