Description
Tubulus in shape of a rectangular box with rounded corners. Two narrow sides pierced with circular holes (Diam. 0.020) for lateral ventilation. Thin, sparse patches of mortar across surface mark attachment to adjacent tiles and walls. Two jagged seams along lengthwise edges on one of narrow sides reveal that flue tile was made by wrapping sheet of clay around a former (wooden beam?) and then closing gap by patching in smaller sheet.
Fabric, firing, surface
5YR 6/6, reddish yellow. Slightly hard, fine fabric with rare, tiny black flecks (carbon?) and scattered small, spherical to subrounded voids.
Preservation description
Intact with slightly broken edges. Slight erosion on one side but otherwise well preserved.
