Description
Cup or bowl. Small ring base, outward flaring, around small central button. Wide rounded lower wall. Black glaze on interior only.
Fabric, firing, surface
Brownish gray core; pale red interior and exterior surfaces (1-2 mm). Slightly soft, moderately fine; smooth break. Uncommon, tiny, well sorted, mostly white (some platy) bits and rare dark specks. Thin, matte, black glaze on varying thickness. Attic?
Preservation description
One additional chunk of vitrified pottery or metal(?) embedded in mortar in bag with vessel.
Preservation description
One sherd preserves almost intact base and small part of lower wall. Slight, sparse abrasion and one large chip in base; worn breaks; frequent patches to specks of encrustation. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
