Description
Solid spike toe tapers in middle but widens to ball at base.
Fabric, firing, surface
Pale yellow with a tinge of gray, consistently fired. Somewhat coarse, slightly soft, smooth; common, medium, subrounded and subangular, grey and red inclusions, some rocky; very rare sparkles; rare, small, rounded voids.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves entire toe to attachment with body. Severely water-worn: extreme, extensive abrasion and pitting; no visible encrustation or mortar. Collected from beach or underwater in antiquity?
