- Description
- Popular form of Republican wine amphora made in central, southern, and Adriatic Italy (and elsewhere), and trade throughout Mediterranean but more frequently in West than in East. Piriform or wide boy tapering to solid spike, with sharply carinated shoulder, tall cylindrical neck, angular projecting rim, and tall vertical handles, oval in section. Fabrics vary by region of manufacture.
