Description
Early-Middle Roman amphora made at Heraclea Pontica on the Bithynian coast. Narrow-necked, compact form in light-colored, gritty fabric. Widespread in Pontic region from ca. mid-1st to mid-3rd centuries, with limited distribution in the Mediterranean. Continuous development from Late Hellenistic prototypes to Late Antique successors.
