Description
Rather common Late Roman amphora perhaps for olive oil in northwest Mediterranean region. Northwest African manufacture, probably Numidia-Mauretania. Large, wide, cylindrical amphora with a short, concave neck, a thickened, outsplayed rim, small loop handles, and a small, solid, spike toe with a knobby termination. Ligh red, fine, clayey fabric with rounded quartz particles. Second half of 4th to mid-5th century.
