Description
Triangular handle ornament has spiral motif in narrow raised lines and back strut for attachment to vertical pierced handle. Represents left corner volute on a horizontal line below a palmette, a motif that occurs on handle shields for volute lamps.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 7/5YR 7/6, reddish yellow. Slip: 5YR 3/3, dark reddish brown. Soft, fine fabric with common, very small, rounded to subrounded, white inclusions. Thin, dull, streaky slip, eroded in flakes.
Preservation comment
One large fragment preserves one corner of handle. Slight abrasion; traces of encrustation.
