Description
Oval outline. Slightly oval, shallow, plain discus has central filling hole with wide rim and double framing rings, and small airhole at bottom. Shoulder has channel with prominent, sharp rim and raised trapezoidal panels. Forked ridge between converging channel rims at base of nozzle. Small rounded nozzle with short, squared bottom; traces of burning. Ring handle has one broad groove and flanking ridges above and none below. Lower handle has X and terminates midway to base. Body below suture slopes steeply to base. Flat, wide base has single circular groove around small incuse letter: Λ.
Fabric, firing, surface
7.5YR 7/6, reddish yellow. Early-Middle Roman Corinthian lamp fabric: buff; fine.
Preservation description
Seven large fragments constitute over 75% of lamp but 25% of discus is missing. Slight, sparse abrasion; clean breaks; inconsistent patches of encrustation.
