Description
Elongated, tear-shaped outline. Tear-shaped, concave, plain discus has central filling hole, small slit for airhole at bottom, and framing groove. Slightly sloping shoulder has single row of oblique double leaves (six per side) and two double circles flanking apex of discus. Discus rim and shoulder turn outward at base of nozzle into triangular termination; traces of burning. Narrow, pierced handle has two grooves. Flat base has small double circle at either side of handle and single tear-shaped groove around incised signature reading handle to nozzle: ΠΟ[ΥΠΛΙΟΥ].
Fabric, firing, and surface description
7.5YR 7/4, pink. Early-Middle Roman Corinthian fabric: very fine, smooth. Unglazed. Sparse, small clay nodules. Excess clay along rim of lower shoulder to upper nozzle.
Preservation comment
Two joining fragments preserve discus, shoulder, lower handle, and ca. 50% of lower body but nozzle is broken. Thick encrustation.
