Description
Circular, shallow discus has figural relief, central filling hole, narrow slit for airhole at bottom, and rounded framing ring. Relief depicts ram striding left and with head facing forward and arched back and rump, standing on groundline. Figure is small within discus and mispositioned, so that head extends to upper left over framing ring. Details are blurry, and minor retouching is evident around eyes and horns. Wide, somewhat flat shoulder with beveled edge has double circles flanking handle and panels. Panels and handle overlap framing ring. Ring handle has two grooves. These fragments may belong to same lamp as fragmentary base signed ΕΠΑΓΑ[ΘΟΥ] (KL243), which was found nearby.
Fabric, firing, surface
7.5YR 7/4, pink. Typical Early-Middle Roman Corinthian lamp fabric.
Preservation description
Two joining fragments preserve almost entire discus, small parts of shoulder, and upper handle. Slight, sparse abrasion but extensive marginal flaking to chipping; worn breaks.
