Description
Perhaps pear-shaped outline. Circular to oval(?), concave discus has relief of Greek cross with raised rim and forked, flaring arms, large filling hole left of center, pinched channel to wickhole, and double framing band. Steeply sloping shoulder has tendril and small grape cluster motif in high relief. This type has long, rounded nozzle with rim from discus and channel wrapping around wickhole. Details es-pecially of shoulder decoration are blurry.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 6/6, light red. Slip: 2.5YR 4/8, dark red. Somewhat soft, fine, slightly micaceous fabric with rare, small, subrounded to angular, white (calcareous) and rare to uncommon, very small, angular red inclusions. Thick, even, semilustrous slip preserved in large patches. Ephesian?
Preservation comment
One small fragment preserves small part of shoulder and discus. Slight to moderate abrasion and pitting; slight, sparse encrustation.
