Description
Circular, concave discus has rosette with four heart-shaped, concave petals, central filling hole, and framing ring. Narrow, sloping and rounded shoulder has small ovules that terminate at base of nozzle in two double circles per side. Narrow, rounded band-handle with two grooves wraps over unevenly and is tucked into rim. Flat, slightly raised base has single circular groove.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 5YR 6/6, reddish yellow. Slip: 2.5YR 5/8, red, to 2.5YR 3/4, dark reddish brown. Hard, medium-fine clay with frequent, small, subrounded, white inclusions. Flaking slip that varies in color with splotchiness; cf. KL166. Large clay nodules in base groove. Western Asia Minor.
Preservation comment
Four large joining fragments preserve entire handle and base, 75% of discus, 50% of shoulder, and part of nozzle. Extensive erosion; sparse encrustation.
