Description
Circular, concave, plain discus has central suspension handle, cylindrical and thin, with small loop at top, filling hole above left, and wide, rounded framing ring. Broad, sloping shoulder has large ovules terminating at nozzle with double circles or small. Long, rounded nozzle with large volutes and small slit for airhole in channel; traces of burning. Flat base with single circular groove around trace of incuse signature: [- - -]Υ (right diagonal only).
Fabric, firing, and surface description
5YR 7/6, reddish yellow. Early-Middle Roman Corinthian lamp fabric: somewhat soft, fine but mealy texture. Unglazed.
Preservation comment
Nine large joining fragments preserve ca. 75% of top and most of bottom. Extensive abrasion, erosion and flaking.
