Description
Probably a plaque but possibly a lid or vessel with square lower left cover, hollow back, and slightly arching top or front. Molded relief on top or front depicts large spreading grape leaf with sharp edges above dense trilobate grape cluster.
Fabric, firing, surface
Fabric: 2.5YR6/6, reddish tan, to 5YR 8/4, pink. Slip: 10R 5/8, red. Somewhat soft, coarse clay with uncommon, medium, well-sorted, subangular to subrounded, orangish red, white, quartzite, and very small gray inclusions and rare spherical voids. Thin, flaky, semilustrous slip, preserved in small streaks in lower grooves. Very slight traces of matte green(?) paint in area of leaves.
Preservation description
One large fragment from lower left corner of molded form preserves part of figure. Moderate to heavy, sparse splitting and heavy, extensive abrasion; slight, extensive encrustation.
