Description
Straight, hollow, rectangular plinth with two framing grooves around edge and decoration of curving, pointed, triangular shapes (floral?) in relief on front. A hollow, circular, vertical element is attached to top of plinth, where clay luting creates thickened band around inside and outside joint. This column is either support for a lamp (if on left of whole piece) or altar-shaped support for a thymiaterion (if in middle of whole piece). Hole pierced through top of plinth inside support before firing.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 5YR 7/8, reddish yellow. Slip: 10R 6/8. Hard, grainy, somewhat porous fabric with rare, small to medium, angular, white and black inclusions. Thin, uneven slip, somewhat dull but slightly lustrous in places, flaky. Knidian.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves small part of upper plinth and lower 25% of a vertical element, either central thymiaterion or left lampstand. Slight abrasion; extensive encrustation.
