Description
Corinthian wheelmade fine-ware bowl. Constricted, somewhat angular ring foot and lower wall rising broadly. Floor has circular outer groove enclosing part of large stamped palmette. Trace of original slip in the impressed lines of palmette. Size and profile are consistent with large bowls with outturned rim. Such bowls are usually glazed on interior and partially or fully glazed on exterior; whether this fragment was originally glazed on exterior is unclear.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric (interior): 2.5Y 6/1, gray; (exterior): 7.5YR 6/4, light brown. Somewhat hard, somewhat gritty to medium fine fabric with frequent, very small golden mica and black inclusions.
Preservation comment
One small fragment preserves small parts of foot and floor. Heavy abrasion; moderate, sparse encrustation.
