Description
Lead-glazed cup. Yellow glaze and horizontal grooves on interior; green glaze with floral motif in barbotine (cream-colored engobe) on exterior.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5Y 5/1, gray. Glaze (interior): light olive brown in field and strong brown in grooves (PMS 7555-1615); (exterior): 5Y 3/2, dark olive gray in field and creamy yellow engobe (PMS 132-7403). Hard, medium-fine fabric with frequent, very small, subrounded to subangular, well sorted, white, gray, and black inclusions; uncommon small, spherical voids. Thick, even, semilustrous to lustrous glaze shows crazing. Western Asia Minor, perhaps Smyrna.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves small part of body. Slight chipping; slight, sparse encrustation.
