Description
Plate. Low-flaring wall and upturned rim. Exterior has white slip and wheel ridging; interior has white slip and light yellow to yellowish green glaze. Sgraffito decoration incised deeply by wide point on upper body near rim: uncertain design of floral spike(?) and spiral or animal’s ear(?). Details are freely and unevenly rendered.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 5/8, red. Slip: white. Glaze: light yellow to yellowish green (PMS 7401–7407). Somewhat soft, fine to slighty gritty fabric with rare, small, subangular, white (lime) inclusions. Thin (exterior) to thick (interior), uneven slip. Thick, even, semilustrous glaze shows crazing.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves small part of bottom and lower body. Moderate to heavy abrasion and chipping around edges; slight, sparse encrustation.
