Description
Large, heavy bowl. Tall ring foot that flares toward bottom; slight groove at articulation of foot and body. Flaring lower wall. Exterior and bottom have white slip-wash and clear glaze; interior has white slip and light yellow to orangish yellow glaze. Sgraffito decoration incised imprecisely and deeply by wide point around edge of floor: one concentric band with hatching.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 5/8, red. Slip: white. Glaze: light yellow to orangish yellow (PMS 7507–7563). Somewhat hard, medium coarse fabric with rare, small, rounded to subangular, white (lime) and rare, small, sparkling inclusions. Somewhat thick, even, dull slip as wash. Thin, uneven (exterior) to thick, even (interior), semilustrous glaze shows crazing.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves small part of lower body, foot, and floor. Moderate, sparse abrasion and chipping and slight, sparse gouging; slight, sparse encrustation.
