Description
Large bowl or plate. Low-flaring wall. Upturned, slightly flaring, thickened rim with pointed lip. Exterior mostly unfinished; interior has white slip up over rim, brown painted linear design, and clear glaze. Decoration painted in broad strokes on inner rim: uncertain linear and curving design, probably spirals, in horizontal format.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Fabric: 2.5YR 6/8, light red. Slip: white. Paint: 5YR 6/4, light brown to light reddish brown. Glaze: clear. Somewhat soft, fine fabric with rare, small, rounded, white (lime) inclusions and very rare, medium, angular, gray inclusions. Thin, even, dull slip, flaky. Thin, uneven, matte paint, flaky. Slightly thick, even, dull to semilustrous glaze, flaky, shows crazing.
Preservation comment
One fragment preserves small part of rim and upper body. Moderate, sparse abrasion, chipping, and gouging.
