Comment
JLR: Forgery? First, there are several errors in the legends. The start and end of the obverse legend shows a noteworthy die error. There appear to be two Xs at the end of DVX, and then a relatively small and thin cross off axis to the right in the usual place of the initial I, immediately followed by a O that has been distorted by the marginal border bending inward. The spacing of the letters on the reverse legend is incorrect, so that the + is off axis to the left, the spacing of VE[X] in uneven, and the spelling of VENECIA shows misplaced and omitted letters. Second, the obverse cross is unusually shallow and full in comparison with the inscribed letters. Third, the reverse lion is poorly rendered in too many sketchy lines, and it does not align with the inscribed letters.
