Description
Frying pan. Wide flaring body. Plain, slightly angular rim. Short tubular (hollow) handle has flaring knob with distinct outer rim; spirally turned; attaches at diagonal angle to rim, pressed with finger close to rim to below and overrunning lip above.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Medium brown fabric with a tinge of red; thin even surface wash fired consistently dark brown. Medium coarse, hard; granular break. Small, well sorted, subrounded and subangular inclusions: black, gray, clear, few white; rare medium, angular, gray and yellow chunks; rare medium, subrounded, lime chunks; faintly micaceous.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 5-6% of rim and one intact handle. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion, flaking and chipping around edges; worn breaks. Extensive thin film of encrustation.
