Description
Circular outline. Circular discus with raised rim, filling hole upper center and figural relief. Type of opposing Lares with columnar altar(?) flanked by fronds. Discus motif appears in several western formats and occasional eastern derivatives (see comparanda). Narrow, sloping to rounded shoulder with large ovules.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Pinkish buff fabric; fine but somewhat gritty, slightly soft. Orangish brown slip, mottled: thin but variable thickness, semilustrous.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 50% from back of discus and ca. 20% of shoulder. Slight, sparse abrasion, rare pitting, and somewhat sparse chipping around edges; slight worn breaks; small, scattered patches of rough encrustation.
