Description
Amphora. Rounded shoulder. Cylindrical neck, bulging slightly in middle. Loop handle, round to oval in sections, attaches at middle neck and shoulder. Red dipinto in large letters on upper shoulder, alongside handle: ΞΚΒ<
Fabric, firing, and surface description
5YR 7/4, pink (exterior surface, weathered); 5YR 7/6-7/8, reddish yellow (core and interior surface). Hard, smooth, consistently fired, fine to medium fine fabric. Splintery break. Uncommon, well sorted, tiny black and gray bits; rare, well sorted, tiny, golden micaceous flakes visible on surface; rare to very rare, well sorted, subangular and subrounded, white particles (calcareous); very rare, small to medium, angular, bluish gray chunks; very rare, small, subangular, red chunks.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves ca. 20% of upper shoulder, lower neck, and one handle with both attachments. Slight, sparse abrasion; somewhat worn breaks; sparse specks of encrustation. Black speckling (old post-depositional).
