Late Roman Athenian lamp, late glazed
Description
Rounded shoulder. Short vertical loop handle with three grooves above seem and two below.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Typical fabric (rather coarse with rare, medium, subrounded lime chunks), firing, and surface treatment (consistent but thin slip slightly darker than fabric, roughly finished). Roughly smoothed molding seem. Plug of clay inside handle loop from before firing.
Preservation comment
One large sherd preserves almost all of hand and small part of adjacent shoulder and wall. Slight to moderate, somewhat extensive abrasion and minor chipping around edges; worn breaks; thin film and scattered specks of encrustation.
