Conservation
1960s: mending with shellac and restoration with white plaster.
Description
Small hemispherical cup. Concave rim with plain, everted lip. Slight turn at shoulder; rounded lower wall to narrow, flat base. Three horizontal bands of rouletting arounding body, the upper two more deeply impressed.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Material obscured by weathering: dark orange fabric, slip more red; large patch of gray discoloration from variable firing; very fine to fine; rare, tiny to small, dark (black and gray?) and white (lime) inclusions; tiny micaceous bits. Thin, slightly uneven slip, glossy where preserved, over while body.
Preservation comment
Seven sherds preserve ca. 50% of vessel in two non-joining groups, including ca. 60% of rimg altogether and full profile. Slight, extensive erosion and abrasion. Marine deposition has softened fabric, thought detail of surface better preserved than is often the case.
