Description
Baking dish with high curved rim. Upper face of squared rim is inclined towards interior and has distinct sharp groove forming a resting plane for lid.
Fabric, firing, and surface description
Coarse fabric has very frequent, dark, angular small inclusions (though occasionally medium in size), rare medium light calcareous chunks, as well as varied other sandy bits; collectively these inclusions are densely packed. Slip is only present in small patches, though was likely thick enough, at least in parts, to obscure inclusions. Overall both fabric and slip are predominantly orange-red in hue, but both are likely somewhat discolored.
Preservation comment
One sherd preserves <10% of rim, full wall profile, and part of flat floor. Extensive, moderate to severe erosion and abrasion, so that slip largely gone; worn breaks. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
