Conservation
1960s: refitted with natural shellac.
Description
Flanged bowl. An example of the well-developed, slightly flatter profile in the form‘s later versions. Outer face of rim is tooled to create a slight ridge at lower edge. Low ring foot with distinct triangular center.
Fabric, firing, surface
Fabric and surface discolored by marine exposure but still recognizable as ESC: red fabric with darker slip. Relatively large voids in thickest part of upper wall at level of flange.
Preservation comment
Four large joining sherds preserve ca. 60% of rim and full profile. Extensive, moderate erosion and abrasion with pitting and chipping along rim; worn breaks; rare specks of white encrustation. Weathering consistent with long marine submersion.
